Amarylis Serrano Juarez
I am an Ottawa-based psychotherapist operating a trilingual, Spanish, French, and English-speaking practice. I help clients experiencing a wide array of mental health conditions and emotional and spiritual challenges. I approach each client with genuine curiosity and allow them to explore their behaviour, relationships, feelings, or thoughts that trouble them and cause difficulty in their lives.
I aim to create a warm, safe and mutually respectful environment with my clients. I enjoy working collaboratively with clients using an integrative approach tailored to the client's goals, pulling from therapeutic modalities and perspectives such as client-centered, somatic experiencing, solution-focused therapy, compassion-focused therapy, family systems, attachment theory, cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness and existential therapy, among others. I have been trained in Somatic Experiencing (SE). SE is a body-oriented approach to the healing of trauma and other stress disorders.
I am proud of my education and training at Saint Paul's University (Canada) and La Salle's University (Colombia). My Master of Arts degree in Counselling and Spirituality and Graduate Diploma in Couple Counselling and Spirituality have prepared me to work as a registered psychotherapist with individuals, couples, and families. I am a licensed member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists.
Within a therapeutic relationship, I work with individuals, families and couples. I assist them in coping with stressful life events and life transitions, pre and post-immigration problems/adjustments, and relational concerns such as separation, divorce and parenting challenges. I help with work-related concerns, identity issues, the impact of trauma, abuse, existential distress, medical illness, grief, loss such as the death of a loved one, and specific mental health conditions such as depression and/or anxiety.
My personal experience as a Cuban immigrant and professional work experience at the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organisation (OCISO) help me acknowledge, understand, and assist you with the challenges you may have encountered as an immigrant (if this is your case). Based on a culturally sensitive approach, I can accompany you in your pre- and post-immigration challenges.
I would be honoured to get to know you. Working together, we can discover ways to enhance your emotional, physical, spiritual and mental health.
